35 photos of the alpine village Oberammergau, in which each house is a work of painting

Oberammergau is a small German village, remarkable not only for its excellent location in the southeast of Germany, surrounded by picturesque alpine peaks, but also for its unique, fabulous view. The commune is quite small, it has only a few streets with incredible painted houses, thanks to which this place is visited by more than half a million travelers every year - an impressive result for a modest outback!

Such magical “decorations” of houses began to be acquired here in the 19th century with the light hand of the local artist Franz Zwink, who became famous throughout the world for the authorship of a new genre in architecture - luftmalerai. Once, Mr. Zwink decided to advertise his talent by painting his own house. This was a win-win step, because after that the residents of Oberammergau began to line up for him in line for the same transformation of their homes.

The painting was done so realistically and talentedly that you don’t even immediately understand that these are frescoes, not real architectural elements.

Most often, the main characters of the images on the houses were fairy-tale characters.

In addition to fairy tales, the artist was often asked to depict biblical scenes.
